Annuities

Annuities are insurance-based financial tools that offer various benefits for retirement planning. They help mitigate longevity risk by providing the option for lifetime income. Fixed annuities allow contributions through a lump sum or monthly premiums, which grow tax-deferred during accumulation. Taxes apply only when funds are withdrawn. Afterward, in the distribution phase, regular payments are made based on factors like the type of annuity and total contributions. Fixed annuities guarantee a minimum payout and a locked-in interest rate.

Variable annuities, on the other hand, involve contributions that fund payments for retirement or a chosen period. Unlike fixed annuities, their value fluctuates with the performance of underlying investments.

Fixed annuities are generally less risky than variable annuities. Robert DeChick discusses several factors with his clients when choosing the right annuity.

Stocks

Choosing stocks to invest in is an individualized process requiring careful consideration of financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment knowledge. DeChick helps identify a mix of investments, including stocks, that are appropriate for clients and designed to help them reach those goals.

Mutual Funds

These investment vehicles pool funds from several investors to purchase a diverse portfolio of stocks, bonds, or other securities, with each owner owning shares in proportion to their contribution. Mutual funds are often utilized in retirement planning because they provide diversity, expert management, and lower risk than alternative investments. Dechick helps clients determine if mutual funds can fit into their retirement plans.

IRAs

Clients can choose from a traditional IRA, Roth IRA, or SEP IRA. Traditional IRAs are tax-deferred retirement savings accounts. There is no tax on the portion of the income invested and no tax on the additional value from the investment gained; however, there are potential taxes on withdrawals in retirement.

A Roth IRA is funded with taxed income. There is no tax on the additional value your investments gain and no tax on withdrawals in retirement. Simplified employee pension (SEP) IRAs are tax-deferred retirement savings accounts set up by business owners or self-employed individuals for themselves and any employees. Earnings grow tax-free and are subject to the same rules as traditional IRAs.

When discussing the IRA options, Robert Dechick will consider the various tax advantages and liabilities of different accounts, a client’s income, possible tax consequences, the mix of investments in a client’s portfolio (stocks, bonds), and risk tolerance.

Other products include Futures & Commodities and Exchange-Traded Products.
